Glossary

2D

Two dimensional environmental space

3D

Three dimensional environmental space

BC

The background cloud (BC) is made up by a group of points in a 2D/3D environmental space (E). Each point has two or three values in E and a pair of geographic coordinates (longitude and latitude). In other words, the BC is mapping two or three geographic environmental variables in E.

CP

The convex polyhedron of the occurrence points in 2D or 3D E space, which can be used to estimate a species’ realized niche.

E/E space

Environmental space or niche space

ENM/SDM

Ecological niche modeling/Species distribution modeling

G/G space

Geographic space

N

Real or virtual species data set (i.e., niche model or occurrences), N(s) refers to several opened N in a scenario

Note:

N was names as G+ in the previous version. To avoid the garble with Geographic, we decided to change G+ to N. If you find any unreplaced text, figure or menus in both software and user manual, please tell me via huijieqiao@gmail.com. Thank you very much.

GDAL

Geospatial Data Abstraction Library, which is a library used to handle rasters in NicheA.

MVE

Minimum-volume ellipsoid, approach utilized to estimate a species’ fundamental niche

Selection

A white ellipsoid with six red points and a green point in NicheA’s virtual scenario, which is used to generate a virtual N by using the points inside of it from BC or another N.
